Former Dragon flies to the NBA!

When it’s not football season Austin is a little bit like LA when it comes to sports, something might be going on but anyone within a 30-mile radius of 6th Street is likely too drunk, too tired or working or playing too hard to notice.

That means most of you did not have a chance to see North Carolina’s John Henson cross the stage at No. 14 overall on his way to a career with the Milwaukee Bucks. Why is that significant? Well, the 6-foot-11, 220-pound forward from North Carolina might have graduated from Florida’s Sickles High School, but his meteoric rise to basketball stardom began in Round Rock.

Yep, the Tarheel, who averaged 13.7 points, 9.9 boards and 2.9 blocked shots last season, used to mind the nets at Round Rock High School. Henson averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds per game as a junior for the Dragons, before his father’s job took the athletically gifted family to Florida in 2008. Henson’s sister Amber was district newcomer of the year as a freshman and is currently a sophomore forward at Duke University.
