Verizon’s 4G contest is in good fun, but charity is serious business

Look.  I love animals, and I’ve devoted a good portion of my career to kids. I want the best

Houston’s Madd Hatta. Is it me, or didn’t you always picture him in a hat?

for both of them. Sometimes, though, Fido and Cindy Lou just have to play second fiddle. This is one of those times. I’m talking about Verizon’s 4G for Charity campaign currently being conducted in Atlanta, Dallas, Miami and Houston.

For the event four local celebrities show how Verizon’s 4G network and products benefit them in their daily life. Fan’s vote for their favorite celebrity online, and Verizon gives four thousand dollars to the winner’s charity of choice.

It’s a basic, brilliant and viral marketing campaign with no losers. The celebrities probably get some free schwag and to make a substantial donation to charity without breaking their own banks. Verizon garners some positive publicity. While participants have a chance to win a Verizon tablet, tickets to the finale and lunch with their favorite celeb just by taking the time to vote.

Where it gets serious for me, however, is the charities involved.
